ABOUT VLTD GPS Tracker

Under a mandate approved by the Department of Roads, Transportation and Highways, all public transit vehicles must be equipped with VLTs (vehicle location trackers) and panic buttons beginning Jan. 1, 2019. The new Motor Vehicles (Vehicle Location Tracking Device and Emergency Button) Order, 2018, applies to all public transport vehicles covered under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989, which means auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws are exempted. The rule applies to vehicles registered on or after January 1. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has amended the CMVR by inserting regulation 125H, which requires the installation of vehicle location devices and emergency call buttons (VLTD) in all public service vehicles. The Central Government issues the Motor Vehicles (Vehicle Location Tracking Device and Emergency Button) Order, 2018 “ to set the standard for equipping or installing VLTD in all public service vehicles. Every public service vehicle (four-wheeled vehicle or more) shall be equipped with a AIS 140 compliant GPS device (VLTD) registered on or after January 01, 2019.
